Savvy’s designers offer their top design tips for making your home sparkle and shine for the holidays.

“When it comes to holiday décor, too much is never too much! It’s all about layering to add depth and texture to your décor. Think sumptuous ribbon, holiday pillows, trees (more than one) dressed to the nines in their holiday finery, stockings hanging by the fireplace or on the bannister, fresh greenery dripping with twinkling lights, pinecones, ornaments and ribbons, and a soft, cozy throw at the ready on your favorite chair. Holiday décor should match your home’s personality, too. Are you more formal? Golds and silvers may be perfect for you. Whimsical? Think outside the “holiday box,” and try chartreuse, pink, or blue. Casual? Burlap, plaids and natural elements may be calling your name. Traditional? Go with classic reds and greens all the way. The most important thing to remember is that when you think you’re finished . . . keep going.

Think outside traditional color palettes when decorating your home for the holidays. Reds and greens are classic and beautiful, but it’s ok to have some fun. Peacock blue and gold are on trend this year, as are mixed metals (gold, silver, copper, rose gold), and bright “candy colors,” such as pinks, fuchsias, purples, apple green, and teal. Even black and white can be striking and festive, especially mixed with gold or silver.

When decorating your home for the holidays, don’t be afraid to make it sparkly! You want your home to be warm and happy during the holidays.  A little sparkle (or a lot), just adds to the warmth. White lights, mercury glass, silver and gold touches, and reflective surfaces add to the sparkle.
