It's said that life is not black and white. There are many gray areas. Philosophically, this may be true. But as a design aesthetic, black and white can be stunning and fresh. I think sometimes black and white is all you need! Lately, I am loving the sleek look of a black and white space. Yes, a pop of color can be appealing. Van Morrison said, "there is no black-and-white situation. It's all part of life. Highs, lows, middles." But for today, Mr. Morrison, I want to take a monochromatic view. The simplicity and raw beauty of it inspires me.
Today we are thinking about holiday tabletops. Doing a holiday table should be fun! Start with some of your old favorites and then add a new pop of color, or texture, or an interesting piece and watch the table come to life. You can do a table around a theme, a color, a special event, etc. A holiday table can set the tone for your entertaining, so start opening those storage boxes, make a couple trips into the showroom and watch the holiday fun come to life!
Anyone who knows me, or visits Savvy regularly, knows that my favorite time of year is October through December! I love the busy schedules, chilly evenings, holiday music, great smells, sparkling trees and family gatherings. The designers at Savvy have already been busy compiling our holiday inventory and I cannot wait to see it come together. Be ready for twinkle lights, fresh garland ideas, and some fabulous new color schemes coming this holiday season!! It's never too early to start thinking about Holiday decor-just like it's never too early for Christmas music.......Sleigh bells ring, are you listening?
Ok, maybe it's a little too early for that!
Driving into work this morning I as bombarded with ‘back to school’ ads. Hard to believe we are already at the end of summer. It seems school starts earlier every year! The end of summer always triggers great vacation memories! My favorite spot is Naples Florida. This sunny kitchen is the heart of a waterfront home in Naples. I love the bright pops of color that complement the earthy palette of this cheery kitchen. We brought the beauty of the outdoors inside to create a peaceful oasis for gathering with family and friends. The natural light of sunny Florida highlights the walnut stained Maple cabinets and neutral granite countertops. The rattan seats provide comfort and organic style. The focal point of the room is the natural edge slab top dining table which is the perfect spot for sharing meals or playing games. I believe a game or two of beer pong has occurred in this spot! Treasure your memories as we begin the transition to fall. More great times are on the horizon.
Janus Feldman, CEO of outdoor furniture and décor brand Janus et Cie, is quoted in the Spring 2013 issue of Luxe magazine, New York, she states, “When we push ourselves beyond what we know, that’s where we find our greatness.”
Every day at Savvy I see designers stepping out of their comfort zones. We stretch our abilities, expand our vision and exercise our creative muscles. My favorite time of day is the lunch hour. Not because I bring a gourmet meal, completely to the contrary, but because the staff eats together and discusses current projects, client requests and new ideas. It truly is inspiring. I am living outside of the box every day and loving every minute of it! Here are some of my summertime favorites from Janus et cie.
The rule of thumb for design in 2016 is that there are no rules! Diane loves to add contemporary lighting to transitional spaces to create a look that is sleek and chic.
